1.People in the two Koreas have to first understand and accept each other. Without this stage chaos will follow. Fifty years of separation have brought about differences in language usages and in other social and culture customs. North Koreans who visited South Korea were amazed to see an endless line of cars on the streets and the crowded business billboards on high rise buildings.
2.On the other hand, South Koreans visiting North Korea reported difficulty in understanding the North Koresn’s spoken Korean because of their heavy northern accent and use of unfamiliar vocabulary mixed with militant expressions. With more frequent visits to each other and increased amount of exchange of activities, these differences will gradually disappear and people will feel more comfortable with each other.
3.Another factor that helps prepare for unification will be the improved economy of North Korea. A majority of North Korean live in poverty, and many children are suffering for lack of food. North Korea has to open its door to the outside world to stimulate its economy, thereby improving living conditions of its people and relieving South Korea of its burden to send aid to North Korea. It is also important North Korea starts to reform its political and economica systems in order to prepare for the new system in the unified Korea.
4.Lastly all Koreana should cooperate in finding peaceful means to reach the goal of unification. War, of course, should be avoid at all costs. Preparatory steps such as reunitng separated families, holding summit meetings, exchanging sports and other cultural activities and allowing tourists to visit each other land will pave the way to the goal of Unification.

The Necessity of Unification.
First, family members who have been separated should be allowed to reunited. On August 15th, 2000, for the first time after half a century, family members who were forced to part with each other during the Korean war, had a chance to see each other again. The tearful scene broadcast to the whole world was a convincing reminder to many viewers why reunification of the two Koreas is so important.
Secondly, a unified Korea will become less vulnerable to threats of war. At the present time, both Koreas are spending a tremendous amount of money to support military forces and to purchase expensive weapons from outside of Korea. Once unified, Korea can become a stronger and safer nation with combined military forces and natural resources.
Thirdly, a unified Korea has the potential to become an advanced nation with its 70 million people and growing economy. Combining the natural resources of North Korea and advanced technology of South Korea will contribute to a huge jump in economy, which will likely result in Korea becoming one of the strongest industrial nations in Asia and indeed in the world.
Fourth, unified Korea will provide a bigger pool of talents in sports, arts and other cultural areas. For example in the Sydney Olympics of the year 2000, South Korea won 8 gold medals, 9 silver medals and 11 bronze medals, ranking 60th. Obviously if two Koreas were represented as one team, the number of medals and the rank would have been much higher. It was quite heartwarming to see the North Korean team of athletes participate in the Asian Olympics which was held in Pusan in September, 2002.

The truce treaty was signed by the United Army, composed the UN and South Korean armies, and North Korea on July 27th, 1953. The newly drawn line between the two Koreas has become what is known as DMZ. This DMZ line is drawn from the Han River in the western part of Korea through Pan Moon Jum to Ko Sung, a city in the easten end of Korea.
The DMZ is an area in which any military activities, building of military facilities or storing weapons are strictly forbidden.

North Korea still claims that the Korean War started because the imperialistic USA invaded North Korea with the help of South Korea, and North Korea had to fight back in order to defend their country against the invaders. The whole world knows that this is not true.
At 4 oclock in the morning of June 25th,1950 the North Korean communist army crossed the 38th paraelle and invaded South Korea using Soviet made tanks. At that time the armed forces of South Korea was very inferior to those of North Korea. Because of their weak forces, the South Korean army had to retreat to the Nak-Dong River in the Southern part of Korea, and the South Korea lost almost three-fourths of its territory to the North Korean forces.
The United Nations announced that North Korea was an invader and demanded that they immediately leave South Korea. When North Korea refused to leave, the United Nations decided to send troops in order to assist the South Koreans to fight the invaders. Sixteen nations sent troops.
On September 1950, General Douglas McArthur, the commander in-chief of the UN army, successfully landed in In-chon Harbour, and soon the South Korean army recaptured Seoul, the capital city of South Korea. As the united forces of the UN and South Korean army moved northward, the communist Chinese army joined the war. The united forces had to retreat southwrd again. The war lasted for three years, without a winner, and the two Koreas ultimately agreed to a truce. Unfortunately both sides decided to keep the division line, separating Korea into South and North Koreas.
The North Korea still boasts that the truce day is a victory day, resulting in the liberation of Koreans. This is again not an accurate picture of the real situation.

The father of Korea, Tangun, about 5000 years ago founded our fatherland, Korea. Tangun named this nation ‘Chosun’. ‘Chosun’ means a “beautiful nation of morning calm”. The Korean peninsula resembles the shape of a tiger leaping over the land. The people living on this land are as courageous as tiger both physically and spiritually.
However, now, the Korean peninsula is divided into South and North by a ceasefire line. Each country has had different ideology and structural system for over 50 years. Because of this division the people may not come and may nor travel between the two countries. We must achieve unification very soon so that we can happily live together.
The unification is a fundamental basic condition for Korea to develop and prosper. It is very essential to Korea enlarging its influential status worldwide.
